Three major international airports in India have been put on high alert following hijack threats.
Security has been beefed up at airports in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai after agencies were warned about a possible hijack attempt of an aircraft from these facilities.
Officials said a high alert warning has been issued to the three airports after the Mumbai police received an email on Saturday night from a woman residing in the city. The email, which was shared with all security and intelligence agencies, said how the woman overheard six boys talking about a possible aircraft hijack attempt at these facilities.
Stakeholders at these airports declared the input specific and actionable, at a meeting. Central Industrial Security Force director general O P Singh confirmed that the security apparatus at these airports has been put on “an enhanced alert and protocols have been stepped up”.
Some of the other steps being taken include special anti-sabotage sweeps at these airports since Sunday morning in addition to frisking of passengers, baggage scanning, pre-embarkation checks and patrols in the vicinity of the airports, officials said.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
