Five members of a family were killed and two others injured on Sunday in heavy shelling by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, Mint has reported.

"The Pakistan Army resorted to indiscriminate shelling in Balakote sector of the LoC. A shell fell on a house killing five members of the same family," the police said.

According to Army’s public relations officer Lieutenant colonel Devender Anand, the ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Bimber Gali started around 7.45 am.

“They are specifically targeting civilian areas,” he said.

Civilians were killed in Devta Dhar village when a shell fired from Pakistan hit the house of Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan. The dead include the house owner, a woman, a boy and a minor girl, police said.
