Following heavy snowfall, all flights from Srinagar were cancelled on 7 February (Thursday) as per reports by ANI.
“Due to bad weather and heavy snowfall at Srinagar Airport all flights are cancelled for today,” tweeted the airport authorities. Furthermore, even vehicular movement was restricted on Jammu-Srinagar highway.
The Jammu-Srinagar highway was closed for the second day due to accumulation of snow in the Jawahar Tunnel and Patnitop areas. To resolve the blockage, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working to clear the highway of debris.
Earlier, the highway was shut for a period which spanned to over ten days due to landslides and snowfall. In Jammu region, Rajouri witnessed snowfall following which a snow-clearing operation was launched.
The heavy snowfall has forced a significant number of people to stay indoors while the traffic in other towns and cities moved at snail’s pace.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
