Former Indian cricketer and famed commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the presence of the party’s national in-charge of Tamil Nadu C T Ravi. The saffron party’s state president L Murugan joined the duo to announce the 54-year-old’s induction into the BJP.

Film actor Khusbhu Sundar had joined the BJP in October. On Wednesday morning, she tweeted that two of her close friends are set to follow her into the party from Chennai. “Two of my very good friends are joining @BJP4India today in chennai in the presence of our #TN Prez @Murugan_TNBJP avl and our respected Gen Sec @CTRavi_BJP avl. Will let you know in sometime till then keep guessing,” Sundar wrote.

Now, Republic reports that Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is one of the two friends that the actress mentioned on the social media platform. Sivaramakrishnan was vital to the Indian team’s victorious run in the Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket in 1985.

The leg-spinner represented the country in nine test matches and 15 ODI encounters. He scalped 26 wickets in the longest format of the game and notched 15 dismissals in the 50-over format. Sivaramakrishnan had a prolific career as a broadcaster and commentated in several international matches in the last two decades.
