In what can only be described as a self goal, a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip, aimed at Israel on Tuesday (29 May) ended up taking down the equipment used for power supply, plunging the area into darkness, reports The Times of Israel. A spokesperson for the Israel Electric Corporation said that three power lines supplying power to the region went down after being struck by a projectile.Gaza depends on Israel for the limited power that it has. Repairs are expected to take time to complete.
Israeli Minister for Energy and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz has instructed that repairs be held off till the situation is calm in order to ensure the safety of workers.
Tuesday witnessed 70 mortar attacks against Israel originating from the Gaza strip that caused some damage although most of them were intercepted by the Jewish state's Iron Dome air defence system. One shell struck a tree around a kindergarten but saw no casualties since students had not yet arrived at the school. Four Israeli’s including a civilian were wounded in shelling.
