Chief Minister (CM) of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar announced on Sunday (1 December) that the lessons of the Hindu holy book Gita would be taught to students in the schools of the State, reports Asian News International (ANI).

The intent behind the decision has been reported to teach good values to the students. Speaking about the decision, CM Khattar said, "We are of the opinion that shlokas from the Gita should be included in school syllabus. We have said this before as well. We will add some shlokas as summary in the curriculum so that children learn good values."

Emphasising that Gita is "the essence of life," CM Khattar said that Gita is not linked to any religion. He was attending 'Gita Mahotsav Programme' in New Delhi on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working to develop Kurukshetra into a holy magnificent city at the international level.

He said that the pilgrimage sites of Mahabharata located in the ancient region of 48 kos of Dharmakshetra Kurukshetra are being developed in a grand manner.
