Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Central government on Thursday (30 September) extended the validity of documents related to Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle (CMV) Rules, 1989 till 31 October.

The ministry had earlier too issued similar advisories on 30 March last year, 9 June 2020, 24 August 2020, 27 December 2020, and 26 March 2021 and 17 June 2021.

Taking into consideration the need to prevent the spread of Covid-19, it was advised that the validity of fitness, permit (all types), license, registration or any other concerned document may be treated to be valid till 31 October.

"This covers all documents whose validity has expired since February 1 2020 or would expire by October 31, 2021. Enforcement authorities are advised to treat such documents valid till October 31, 2021," the Road Transport Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, the ministry had extended the validity of all the MVA and CMV related documents till 30 September 2021.

The government's move is expected to help citizens in availing transport-related services while maintaining social distancing.
