Gujarat Police's Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested an alleged sharpshooter from Ahmedabad after an exchange of fire in the wee hours of Wednesday (19 August).

The ATS and crime branch had received intel regarding two contract killers hiding in a hotel in Ahmedabad's Relief Road, after which a team raided the place, the Economic Times reported.

According to a source cited in the report confirmed the development and said the team that raided the place after getting tip off was fired upon by the men who were hiding in the hotel. "Luckily there were no injuries and one person has been apprehended," the source said.

The alleged contract killer had come to Ahmedabad from Mumbai.

The sharpshooters have links with Pakistan and had been sent to murder some senior ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in the state, the ET report said citing sources.
