In a big push against manual scavenging, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has deployed a solar energy powered robotic scavenging machine to clean choked sewers, reports Livemint.

The machine has been provided to the VMC by Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The sewer cleaning machine has been developed by Jaipur based Club First Robotics Private Limited.

It is a GPS-enabled device that is equipped with a gas sensor and has cameras for live streaming. The machine also has a system that separates the undissolved particles like plastic materials.

The development gains significance as the machine needs just two people for its operations. Compared to this, according to B Mishra who is the managing director of the Jaipur-based robot company, four to five workers have to go inside the gutter to clean manholes.

As per details shared by Mishra, following the successful operation of the machine, VMC will receive more such machines from the company.
