Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday (1 February) announced that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for January has exceeded Rs 1.4 lakh crore, the highest since the introduction of the indirect tax regime.
"The gross GST collections for the month of January 2022 are Rs 1,40,986 crore, which is the highest since the inception of GST", the Finance Minister said.
The minister further said that the highest GST revenue collection was due to the rapid economic growth recovery post-COVID as well as various policy and administrative measures undertaken by central and state tax administrations.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
