BJP MLA from Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad has claimed that the party, if voted to power, will rename the city as Bhagyanagar. He is said to have been inspired by Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani’s statement on the government considering renaming of Ahmedabad as Karnavati.
The MLA is said to be further contemplating a promise to rename Secunderabad and Karimanagar as well. He reiterated that Hyderabad had its original name Bhagyanagar prior to 1590.
Times Now quoted MLA Raja Singh who spoke to ANI as saying, “Earlier, Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar. In 1590, when Quli Qutub Shah came to Hyderabad, he changed Bhagyanagar to Hyderabad. At that time, many Hindus were attacked, many temples destroyed. We are planning to rename Hyderabad. In Telangana, BJP will win in majority and then, our first aim will be developing the state and the second objective will be renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar. We will also change the names of Secunderabad and Karimnagar.”
This trend seems to have originated from Uttar Pradesh, after several cities have been renamed in the state. CM Vijay Rupani is considering all legal angles before taking a call. CM Yogi Adityanath a few days ago announced that Faizabad will soon be renamed as Ayodhya.
