IIT Kharagpur main building (Biswarup Ganguly/Wikimedia Commons)The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has announced a new research and technology development hub chiefly focused on providing affordable and accessible healthcare, NDTV has reported.
The research hub known as Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH) is supported by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). It will be situated on the institute campus.
The hub would strive to develop ways to provide affordable and accessible modern health care via technological innovations.
The centre would also aim to provide supporting growth and development of precision manufacturing by involving MSMEs to reduce import burdens. These MSME manufactured products would reportedly be able to compete in the global market.
As per Visiting Professor, School of Medical Science and Technology, IIT-KGP, Satadal Saha the research centre would unleash the potential of MSMEs in West Bengal.
After the laboratory tests are successful, scientific validation studies, prototype creation projects would be undertaken at CRTDH for further product development.
