IIT Madras Sees Record Placements In 2018-19 With 964 Students Securing Jobs; Intel, Microsoft Lead Recruitment

Continuing last year’s success, the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) witnessed a surge in the campus recruitment for 2018-19, with the number of students successfully placed touching a record high, reports Financial Express.
In the academic year 2018-19, 964 students got placed with various recruiters, including a number of them who got pre-placement offers (PPOs). The total number of students who had registered for placements was 1,300. The number of students placed last year was 834.
Top recruiters for the year were Micron (26 offers), Intel India (26 offers), Citibank (23 offers), Microsoft (22 offers) and Qualcomm (21 offers). Apart from this, a total of 51 start-ups also participated in the placements this year, making a total of 121 offers, of which 97 were accepted. The leading sectors in start-up recruitment were IT (21 per cent), followed by analytics (16 per cent).
IIT-M said that the number of PPOs also increased this year as a total of 136 PPOs were made against 114 in the preceding year. The campus placements happened over two phases, first from 1 to 8 December and then during the second half of January.
