Instagram, on Friday, announced that they had launched a new feature, “Close Friends” as reported by the Hindu. Through the latest feature, users on the social networking service for photos and videos can now share stories with a smaller group of people.

The feature can be found on the user’s profile in the side menu. The social networking service, owned by Facebook, has around one billion users, and by using this feature, users can share stories exclusively with the smaller groups that’s been created.

Instagram, in a statement, said, “If you’re on someone’s close friends list, you’ll see a green ring around their photo in the Stories tray and a green badge when you’re viewing their stories.”

Facebook is focusing on Instagram, its fastest-growing income generator, since the core platform of the social networking website has come under scrutiny from regulators, who want to enhance information safeguards for individual privacy, fight against social media addiction and put a full stop on misinformation and fake news.

After high-profile exits of the application co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in October, Adam Mosseri, an long-term insider was appointed as the head of Instagram.

Memeburn on Monday (3 December) reported the feature went live, “Starting today, you can make a Close Friends list on Stories and share with just the people you’ve added,” Instagram said on its blog.
