Iran's Judiciary spokesman said that Iran will sue the US President Donald Trump and the US military for the assassination of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.
"We intend to file lawsuits in Iran, Iraq and the Hague court (International Court of Justice) against the military and government of the US and against Trump," Gholamhossein Esmaili was quoted as saying on Wednesday (15 January).
There is no doubt that the US military has done a "terrorist act" by assassinating the Soleimani and Trump has confessed doing "the crime," said Esmaili, Xinhua news agency reported.
"We will initially file a lawsuit in Iran, which is legal under the Islamic Penal Code," he said, adding that "then, we will do the same in Iraq and the Hague court against Trump and the US military."
Soleimani, former Quds Force commander of the Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was killed in a US airstrike near Baghdad International Airport on 3 January.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
