Ahmedabad will soon get the delivery of three metro coaches from South Korea by 2 January and the trials are expected to start by the mid January 2019. The shipment is arriving from South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem facility to Mundra port in Gujarat. Three coaches are a part of the Metro-link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA).
The passengers though might have to wait till MEGA secures the required safety certificates. The commercial operations are expected to start from February.
This metro will connect Vastral Gam and Apparel Park (Maninagar), via a six-km long elevated corridor which will be ready by next month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is most likely to flag off the train, Times of India reported.
After the first run, the safety certification has to be done, and only then it can it be opened for public use. There will be a total of six stations between Apparel Park and Vastral Gam, namely Vastral, Rabari Colony, Amraiwadi and Nirant Crossroads.
Starting from Apparel Park, the metro will continue underground until Shahpur after which it will take the elevated corridor route.
