Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has made changes to the curriculum and started to teach chapters to the students on the J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019 in social studies textbooks for classes 6th to 10th, reports Hindustan Times.
The development gains significance as the Act passed by the two houses of Parliament on 5-6 August of last year bisected the erstwhile State of J&K into two separate Union Territories (Uts) of J&K and Ladakh.
Chairperson of JKBOSE, Prof Veena Pandita shared that the chapters teach the history of J&K, how it was, and how it was ultimately divided into two UTs. She added that the chapters are aimed at teaching how the changes have taken place over time.
The textbook called Social Science Democratic Politics-II for students of class 10 includes Addendum on the Act under eighth chapter of Unit-IV.
It should be noted that the Act had established Ladakh as a UT to be directly administered by the centre, while J&K has been established as a UT with a legislature.
