Mukesh Sharma, a passenger in Jet Airways’ Mumbai-Jaipur flight on 20 September, has been diagnosed with a permanent hearing loss. 30 out of 166 passengers of the Mumbai-Jaipur flight suffered a headache, nose and ear bleeding after the pilots forgot to turn on the system which maintains cabin pressure, reports Hindustan Times.
Sharma is a PhD researcher from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He suffered from ear bleeding in the flight and underwent an audiometry test on 12 November in a Jaipur hospital where he was diagnosed with a permanent hearing loss.
Sharma has discontinued his job as a professor due to the accident and his personal problems “I have been stressed due to the incident and missed the opportunity to apply at the university. I am taking up a post at Ajmer University as a chemistry professor for now.”
The doctors have recommended him to undergo a cochlear implant, which shall be a permanent solution to the problem, else the situation will only get worse with age.
Ankur Kala, a businessman who was another passenger on the flight, has said that he is in the process to file a case against Jet Airways in Consumer Courts for causing mental stress and physiological damage.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
