KissanPro, a Jharkhand-based startup, has been helping farmers with advisories, input supplies like seeds and fertilizers, linking their products to markets and in other areas in the eastern state.
Functioning in about 12 districts, KissanPro looks after the needs of about 10000 farmers and has actively helped them discover better prices for their produce.
Several farmers have been getting assistance in planning their crops, management of drip irrigation, soil testing, cheaper seeds and fertilisers along with immediate tips on WhatsApp through KissanPro.
For example, migrant labour Ajit Manjhi used to earn Rs 10000 per month in Mumbai prior to the pandemic.
He returned back to Bokaro in May 2020 and instead opted to farm on his three acres of land. He is now expecting profits worth Rs 100,000 annually on each acre and has gained a lot of input from the aforementioned startup.
“We currently don’t charge farmers for advisories, and are able to give them a better price for input supplies since we buy directly from manufacturers in bulk,” Pankaj Roy, co-founder of KissanPro, was quoted by the Indian Express.
Roy added, “We are connected to a few institutional buyers and are helping farmers get a better price. This is where we also earn, as of now.”
KissanPro is particularly coming of great use in Jharkhand where tribals own most of the land that have agriculture potential but are unaware of adopting the required methods to ramp up their farm produce.
