In a boost, Reliance Jio continues to top the 4G download speed chart by achieving a top speed of 18.7 megabits per second (Mbps) in December despite the speed being down when compared to November’s 20.3 Mbps, reports The Financial Express.
Jio has been leading the 4G download speed for the past year, according to data shared by Telecom Authority of India (TRAI). Airtel comes in second place with a download speed of 9.8 Mbps, followed by Vodafone with 6.3 Mbps.
Idea tops the chart regarding upload speed despite having a slight dip in performance as the upload speed decreased to 5.3 Mbps in December from 5.6 Mbps in November. Jio came third in upload speed with a rate of 4.3 Mbps in December. Vodafone showed improvement concerning upload speed as they recorded a rate of 5.1 Mbps in December from 4.9 Mbps in November. Airtel also recorded a marginal dip in upload speed as it fell to 3.9 Mbps from 4 Mbps in a month.
Upload speed is often overlooked in favour of download speed, as per analysts, but the metric has become important due to changes in consumer mobile habits. Open Signal, a company which specialises in wireless coverage mapping, has pointed out that users are moving away from consuming and downloading to creating and uploading content, making upload speeds more critical to mobile phone use.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
