J&K's Regional Parties Try To Corner Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam; PDP Calls Him 'Chief Executioner Of RSS'

Regional political parties in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Saturday (8 August) tried to attack the Union Territory (UT)'s senior-most bureaucrat, Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, reports Indian Express.

The development came after Subrahmanyam had remarked that "not a single soul cried" over the detention of political leaders after the Parliament's abrogation of Article 370. Subrahmanyam's assertion had led to the regional political parties taking up arms against him.

Farooq and Omar Abdullah led National Conference tried to link the bureaucracy in the UT to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and claimed that the two were "parroting" the same line of thought.

The NC's spokesperson Imran Nabi said, "It is quite alarming where a serving civil servant is overtly spewing venom against the entire mainstream political spectrum to hide the abject failures of the administration under him since 20 June 2018."

Mehbooba Mufti-led People's Democratic Party (PDP) went on to propagate that Subrahmanyam had come to J&K with a colonial mindset, while also accusing him of being the "chief executioner" of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the Kashmir Valley.

The People's Conference issued an official release telling Subrahmanyam to "speak within his pay and grade." The release also added, "Kashmir has this problem where people get delusions of grandeur. It seems like the Chief Secretary is the latest victim. We hope that Delhi comes out of their delusions. If the utterances of the Chief Secretary are any indicators of what he thinks of himself and this is what he briefs his bosses, then Delhi doesn’t need enemies in Kashmir."
