Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail pleas in the INX media case were rejected by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday (20 August), Bar and Bench has reported.
This order pronounced by Justice Sunil Gaur was earlier reserved by the court on 25 January. Chidambaram was represented by lawyers and senior Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
As per media reports, Chidambaram had earlier managed to obtain 20 interim protection from arrest in this case.
Chidambaram and his son Karti have been accused of receiving illegal benefits from the INX Media owners Peter and Indrani Mukherjea to obtain Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance for INX Media. Chidambaram was the then finance minister of India.
Indrani Mukherjea who is the prime accused in her daughter Sheena Bhora’s murder has turned approver in the matter.
Investigative agencies CBI and ED who are investigating the INX Media case had strongly opposed Chidambaram’s bail plea and urged the court to allow them the statutory right to arrest Chidambaram for effective custodial interrogation.
The agencies have accused Chidambaram of being evasive and non-cooperative during questioning.
