Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has initiated a 100-day plan comprising of policy and reformative measures for development of airports and heliports for the holistic improvement of the civil aviation sector of the country.

The minister revealed that the plan that will focus on 16 areas has been prepared following ‘combined consultations’. Out of the 16 areas, eight areas relate to policy and four pertain to reforms, the Civil Aviation minister mentioned.

Around six heliports will be set up in the hilly states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh under the central government’s UDAN scheme.

Similarly, Scindia has also rolled out a new policy for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) related activities.

The 50-year-old revealed details of four airports that will be established at Kushinagar, Dehradun, Agartala and Jewar. The Kushinagar airport will have the capacity to land flights such as the Boeing 737 and the Airbus 321 aircrafts.

Rs 457 crore will be shelled out in establishing the new terminal in Uttarakhand whose ability to handle capacity then will shoot up from 250 passengers to 1800 passengers subsequently.

Similarly, Rs 490 crore will be invested in enhancing the capacity of the Agartala airport to handle about 1200 passengers per hour from the current rate of 500 passengers in the same time period.

As per the same plans, Rs 30,000 crore is set to be spent for the Noida International Airport project at Jewar, Financial Express reports.
