The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation(LMRC) Ltd., has invited tenders to carry out interim projects of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, reports Metro Rail News.

The construction work on the elevated routes and stations includes special span on the priority section of corridor-1, Phase-I of the Kanpur Metro.

Approximate cost of this phase of work is estimated at Rs 676 crores with a tender security amount of Rs 6.76 crores. A deadline of 21 months has been fixed to finish construction of the first phase.

Construction of the first two lines of the metro project, over a five-year time limit, is estimated to cost Rs 11,077 crores and was approved by the Central government on 28 February 2019.

The previous Uttar Pradesh government under the then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had laid the foundation stone for the construction work on 4 October 2016, a few months before the state assembly elections. But, the civil engineering works on the project had come to halt a within a year, owing to a lot of procedural discrepancies.

Kanpur Metro reworked the detailed project report and finances on the instructions of the central government and made it a public-private partnership model project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the reworked project on 8 March 2019.
