Karnataka Defers State GST Payment, Ministers And Legislators Take 30 Per Cent Pay Cut Worth Rs 15 Crore

The Karnataka cabinet that met today (9 April) passed an ordinance reducing the salaries and allowances of all legislators, ministers, MLCs and Vidhan Sabha officers including the speaker and deputy speaker by 30 per cent.

This amounts to a total of Rs 15,36 crore for one year. The reduction has been made from this month starting 1 April with the consent of all leaders, said Minister For Law, Parliamentary Affairs & Legislation J C Madhuswamy, addressing the media after the cabinet meeting today.

The cabinet also passed an ordinance for deferring the demand of GST taxes which were due by this month. Following the centre’s instructions regarding the same the state also has made provisions for GST taxes to be paid by 30 June.

As far as the lockdown in the state is concerned, chief minister BS Yediyurappa addressing the media informed that though the entire cabinet was in favour of an extension of the lockdown by 15 days, the decision regarding the same would be taken only after a meeting with the Prime Minister tomorrow.

Sixteen new cases were reported in the state today taking the total number of active Covid patients to 161 while the fatalities stand at six and recoveries at 30.
