After a letter by Pakistan quoting Rahul Gandhi came to light, the Congress leader has put out a tweet saying that Kashmir is an “internal matter” of India.
Pakistan has written a letter claiming human rights violations in Kashmir by Indian security forces to different working groups and special rapporteurs of the Human Rights Council.
The letter quotes Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to justify its claim of excesses by Indian security forces against Kashmiri people.
The letter says: These, and other acts of violence have been acknowledged by mainstream politicians, such as the Leader of the Congress Party. Mr Rahul Gandhi, who has noted “people dying” in Jammu and Kashmir, in the light of “events going very wrong there”.
The letter seems to have quoted Rahul Gandhi from a video-clip he had shared himself on Twitter on 11 August.
In the clip, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “The reports have come that things in Jammu and Kashmir are going very wrong. There are reports of violence. There are reports of people dying in Jammu and Kashmir.”
After the letter was released on social media, Rahul Gandhi was forced to clarify.
“I disagree with this Govt. on many issues. But, let me make this absolutely clear: Kashmir is India’s internal issue & there is no room for Pakistan or any other foreign country to interfere in it,” Gandhi said in a tweet today morning.
“There is violence in Jammu & Kashmir. There is violence because it is instigated and supported by Pakistan which is known to be the prime supporter of terrorism across the world,” he added.
