Hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday (29 June) resigned from the Hurriyat Conference, an influential separatist group of over 25 organisations or political parties from the region.
The 90-year-old senior leader of the All Party Hurriyat Conference made this announcement in an audio statement released today saying he was ending his association with the group, it was reported by India Today.
"In view of the present condition of the forum, I resign from All Parties Hurriyat Conference. I have informed all the constituents of the Hurriyat about the decision," he said.
After the audio statement, he had sent a two-page detailed letter to all units of the Conference, journalist Aditya Raj Kaul tweeted.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
