Kochi Water Metro Connecting 10 Islands Via 76 Fast AC Boats To Become Operational By February 2020

With the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) venturing into Water Metro, it has awarded a contract worth almost Rs 30 crore to construct three major boat terminals, reports Rail Analysis India.
A contract, worth Rs 29.67 crores, to construct three major boat terminals at Vyttila, Error and Kakkanad for the phase-1 of the project has been awarded to Marymatha Construction Company.
Kochi Water Metro is planning to develop 16 routes, connecting ten islands on a network of routes, spanning 76 km. Total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 747 crores. German Bank KfW is financing the project.
A fleet of 78 fast, fuel efficient, air-conditioned ferrying across 45 terminals is intended to power the water metro. Such modern watercraft are supposed to benefit more than a lakh islanders. The project is expected to be operational by February 2020.
