In a first, the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh is set to make its debut in the upcoming Republic Day parade with a tableau depicting the iconic Thikse Monastery and its cultural heritage, reports Livemint.

The UT's tableau prominently depicts the historic Thikse Monastery which is located on the top of a hill in Thikse in Leh district. The site is counted among one of the most-visited tourist sites in the region.

It would also highlight Ladakh's vision to be carbon-neutral. It would also showcase the Indian Astronomical Observatory, located in Hanle near Leh. The observatory is one of the world's highest sites for optical, infrared and gamma-ray telescopes.

This year, a total of 17 States and UTs will be represented on the Rajpath through their colourful and vibrant tableaus. In addition to this, various ministries and the three armed forces will also have their own tableaus. These would also include a tableau by the Ministry of Culture, which will also carry a giant bust of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and men and women dressed as INA soldiers.
