In a bid to improve employment potential, students of Class IX will be able to enrol directly into the university stream at Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Gurugram, for a skill-based education, reports The Tribune.
The new concept has also mooted for a feeder school aimed at bringing down the drop-out rate among students and has been approved by the CBSE.
“With the nod from CBSE, the university is set to roll out the programme from the current academic session,” Raj Nehru, the SVSU Vice-Chancellor, was quoted as saying by The Tribune.
The new concept will bring down the drop-out rate as it is rooted in the earn-while-you-learn principle, said Nehru.
According to The Tribune report, in Class XI and XII, students will have the option of training in one of the skill-based subjects, which will make them employable.
The students, after class XII, will also have the option of completing a Bachelors’ in Vocation (B.Voc), a three-year degree course, or return to the traditional education system.
Such models have successfully been implemented in Singapore, Finland and Germany, said Nehru. “The basic aim of the concept is to introduce students to the world of skills at an early stage and to churn out skilled manpower for the industry,” he added.
