The Heavy Engineering arm of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) dispatched six of the World’s largest Coke Drums weighing 658 tonnes each for a refinery project in Mexico ordered by PTI Infraestructura de Desarrollo, (PTI-ID), a subsidiary of the Mexico’s state-owned oil company PEMEX (Petróleos Mexicanos), the company said in a statement on Thursday (20 January).
These Coke Drums form a part of a Delayed Coking Unit in the PEMEX Dos Bocas Refinery Project, which will convert the residue from the combined distillation plant into higher-value products, the company said.
The drums were successfully manufactured during Covid-19 pandemic at L&T’s state-of-the-art ‘Heavy Engineering Complex’ located at Hazira near Surat, it added.
“We thank PTI-ID for reposing faith in L&T for supplying world’s largest Coke Drums for such prestigious project," said Anil V Parab, Member - L&T Executive Committee, Senior VP and Head Heavy Engineering, according to the statement.
“With this achievement, we surpass our own benchmark of supplying similar heavy Coke Drums for a client in the USA," Parab added.
Commenting on the occasion, Leonardo Cornejo, Project Director, PTI Infraestructura De Desarrollo S.A de C.V. (PTI-ID) said, “These Coke Drums are critical equipment for the refinery project of national importance to Mexico and we are glad to associate with L&T for manufacturing of the world’s largest Coke Drums.”
“Achieving on-time delivery of such large Coke Drums involving voluminous fabrication work is commendable," Cornejo added.
