A woman has been arrested in the national capital for being involved in the trafficking of tribals from Jharkhand. Identified as Prabha Minj Muni, the woman’s husband earlier ran a NGO dedicated to work towards the rehabilitation of trafficked women who are rescued from NCR.
The police have reportedly declared her as a proclaimed offender by the court after she was discovered to be trafficking women, according to the Times of India.
The Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal has been attacked for his association with Minj. Former AAP member and Delhi MLA, Kapil Mishra trained his guns on Kejriwal through a series of tweets stating that the event was organised by the woman and that Kejriwal was the chief guest at the event.
She was caught while attending a programme organised for tribal welfare at Punjabi Bagh on Sunday, 23 September. Jharkhand police has already registered several cases against her, and the Delhi police will hand her over to the Jharkhand police for further interrogations.
She was operating in the Chota Nagpur belt for so long. The Indian Express quoted the police as saying, “They set up their own placement agency and lured girls from the tribal belt with the promise of jobs, only to set them up in several households with below minimum wages and not transferring the money to their parents.”
Most of the victims were teenagers. Earlier, the Jharkhand police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for her capture.
