Meghalaya’s first and only Covid-19 positive patient passed away at the multi-speciality North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute Of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in state capital Shillong in the early hours Wednesday (15 April).
The 69-year renowned physician and philanthropist was tested positive Monday evening and was admitted to NEIGRIHMS immediately. The private hospital he was attached with was sealed and turned into a quarantine centre with all the patients admitted there and hospital staff being kept in isolation there.
The doctor was a director of the reputable private hospital in Shillong where former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam had passed away in July 2015.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
