In a major development, Mizoram Police has registered a case against Assam's Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma and six of the State's top officials on charges of attempt to murder and assault, reports Hindustan Times.
The FIR has been filed for the alleged charge of entering Mizoram's Vairengte district and violating the Indian Penal Code and the COVID-19 protocols under the Mizoram Containment and Prevention of COVID-19 Act 2020. CM Sarma and the booked officials have now been asked to appear before Mizoram Police on 1 August.
The development signals that the situation between the two states has vitiated instead of getting better over the border dispute which turned gory and violent recently.
This came shortly after the Assam Government's decision to ask its citizens to not travel to the neighbouring state of Mizoram. Mizoram Government had condemned the move.
Reacting to this, Mizoram's CM Zorathangma took to Twitter and said, "Public notice to all. Northeast India will always be one." He added, "I still hope for an amicable solution to the Assam-Mizoram border tension from the central government."

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
