Nepal: Communal Violence After Muslim Group Attack Hindu Laxmi Puja Procession; Curfew Imposed

Reports have emerged of communal violence after Hindus group was attacked with stones and bricks from nearby rooftops by Muslim group while taking part in a Laxmi Puja procession around Krishnangar Bazaar area, in Kapilvastu on Wednesday (30 October) night.

On Thursday (31 October), a person identified as Suraj Pandey, died of bullet injuries after security personnel opened fire to disperse the mob following a clash between two religious groups in Krishnanagar of Kapilvastu district.

District Administration has imposed an indefinite curfew to suppress any unwanted incidents in the area.

“We are trying to maintain law and order in the area,” Chief District Officer Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha, was reported saying.
