Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday (16 October) said that the next two-and-a-half months are going to be crucial in the nation's fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the light of winters and festivals, reports Times of India.
Dr Vardhan said that it was the responsibility of every citizen to not let the guard down and abide by the COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to curb the spread of the infection which has already caused much loss of lives and livelihoods.
He said that following hand and respiratory etiquettes, and wearing a mask or face cover especially in public places are the cardinal principles of the social vaccine. He said that simple precautionary measures are effective in preventing the infection to a large extent.
Meanwhile, Dr Vardhan also said that the trials of a total of three vaccines are progressing well in India, one of which is already in advanced stage-III clinical trial, while the other two are also in the stage-II trial. He expressed hope that the nation shall have indigenous production of an effective vaccine against COVID-19 soon.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
