The National Health Authority (NHA) has launched the express empanelment process to facilitate quick enrolment of private hospitals under the Government's flagship Ayushman Bharat programme to provide treatment for serious illnesses like cancer and heart ailments, reports Asian News International (ANI).

Ayushman Bharat programme which is spearheaded by the NHA provides an insurance cover of Rs five lakh per family per year to around 50 crore poor individuals of the nation. Under the programme, the beneficiaries can avail over 1,500 health treatment procedures.

The express empanelment procedure was launched by the NHA of Friday (10 April) on a temporary basis to increase the number of enrolled hospitals and facilities to ensure that patients suffering from illnesses like diabetes, cardiac issues and cancer etc. which require continuous treatment can avail continued attention and care without any fear of contracting COVID-19.

NHA's chief executive Dr Indu Bhushan expects that the move would strengthen the supply of care under the Ayushman Bharat programme. The NHA has already begun reaching to the State Governments, hospital associations and healthcare industry bodies to onboard private hospitals through a simple, quick and seamless system.
