In a big boost for India's bilateral ties with the neighbouring nation of Bangladesh, the armies of the two countries began a 14-day joint military training exercise on Monday (3 February) in Meghalaya's Umroi, reports Economic Times.

The main focus of this edition of the fourteen days joint exercise is on Counter Terrorism Operations in mountainous and jungle terrain, said a Defence Ministry statement.

The exercise, SAMPRITI-IX, marks the ninth edition of the joint drill which is alternatively hosted by the two nations. It aims to familiarise the counterpart armed forces with various tactical drills and procedures.

A delegation comprising of 31 officers and 138 other ranks of Bangladesh Army and a Company Group of Indian Army will participate in the joint military exercise, the statement added.

The exercise would witness the soldiers from both nations taking up joint tactical operations like raid, house clearance and cordon and search drills. During the drill, command post exercise and field training drills would also be conducted.
