Making a big push for the adoption of electric vehicles, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has made a pitch for mandating the use of electric vehicles for all the officials in Government departments and ministries, reports Livemint.
Gadkari stated he would mandate the use of electric vehicles for officials in his departments. He also urged his colleague in the Ministry of Power Rakesh Singh to consider the move for officials in his departments as well.
Addressing the launch of the Go Electric campaign, Gadkari shared that use of just 10,000 electric vehicles in Delhi can alone save as much as Rs 30 crore per month.
Other than this, Gadkari also went on to make a case for the Government providing subsidy support on electric cooking appliances as electric cooking is clean and will lead to a reduction in import dependence on gas. He said, "Why don’t we provide subsidy on electric cooking appliances. We already provide subsidy on cooking gas."

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
