E Sreedharan popularly known as the “Metro Man” said on Tuesday that there is nothing to be proud of in accepting foreign aid for relief work in Kerala, reports Mathrubhumi.
“Serious lapse in weather prediction led to the catastrophe. Dams could have been opened early if the Meteorology department had issued a warning . People have lost trust in the weather predictions. Maintaining high water levels at dams during heavy rains was unwarrented ”, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Chief Advisor was quoted saying.
The National Aerospace and Space Administration (NASA) had in a report held the dam management of Kerala accountable for the severe floods in August. Simultaneous opening of big dams of the likes of Idukki accentuated the intensity of the floods said NASA.
An economy as large as India should be capable of dealing with the situation and yelling for foreign help is shameful, said Sreedharan. He urged the State Government to form an autonomous committee to build a new kerala.
