Stones Pelted On Police Officers In Karnataka For Asking People To Not Gather At Mosque For Namaz

Police officers who tried to stop people from gathering at a mosque in Hubli were attacked with stones and chappals.

Over 20 people were reported to have gathered at a mosque in Aralikatte in Hubli at noon today for namaz despite lockdown orders prohibiting any such gathering. The police who arrived at the location tried to pursuade the crowd to disperse and explain to them that gatherings were not permitted as per government orders.

As the crowd got into an argument with the officials, women and youth who were around began to throw stones and slippers at the cops. the cops then had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Eight police officers are said to have been injured in the incident and admitted to KIMS hospital in the city, as reported. The police have taken eight members of the crowd into custody and are said to be on the lookout for others who absconded from the scene.

Similar incidents have been reported from Aligarh, Kannauj and other parts of the country.
