On the day of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Jagat Prakash Nadda's visit to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu BJP leaders led by state president K Annamalai sought the blessings of Lord Shiva at the Sangameswarar temple in Kottaimedu to protect the city from bomb blasts.
The temple is also known as the Kottai Eswaran temple.
While Nadda's programme in Coimbatore was supposed to start with darshan of the deity, his arrival was delayed by a few hours, and so, only the state leaders were present.
It was few metres away from this temple that a bomb blast occurred a day before Diwali on 23 October 2022.
While the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government initially tried to play it down as an accidental LPG cylinder blast, it was the BJP led by Annamalai that said that it was a terror attack and the probe should be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
