Priyanka Vadra on Thursday (20 July) vacated her Lutyens Delhi bungalow which she was assigned as an erstwhile SPG protectee.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had issued a notice date 1 July asking her to vacate the posh Lodhi Estate bungalow in the heart of national capital Delhi within a month. Any overstaying in the bungalow beyond 1 August would have attracted penalties.

Subsequently Union Minister for housing and urban affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, has claimed that a “powerful Congress leader” had requested him to allotted the bungalow to another INC MP so that Priyanka Vadra could stay on.

The notice to vacate was based on a decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on accommodation after the government had reclassified her security to ‘Z’ category.

Z+ security cover category does not provide protectees access to government accommodation unless the cabinet committee approves the exception on the recommendation of the home ministry.

She was allotted the bungalow in 1997.
