Robbers who stole Rs 5.78 crore cash belonging to the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) in 2016 have claimed that they have burnt Rs 2 crore of the cash as they could not exchange it or spend outside, The Hindu has reported. The robbers have bought some immovable property with the rest.
The seven-member gang involved in the robbery has been arrested after two years. Mohar Singh of Guna district, Madhya Pradesh, is said to be the leader of the gang. The arrested men assisted in reconstructing the crime scene in Vriddhachalam Railway Station.
The robbers had drilled a hole and entered a railway parcel van. After that, they broke wooden boxes and carried cash from the railway van. Police suspect involvement of 16 other members and the local people who informed the gang about the movement of bank cash. These arrests were made by a special crime branch and crime investigation department (CB-CID) team.
