Tainted Mumbai Police cop Sachin Waze's name has surfaced in Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s investigations into the Television Rating Points (TRPs) manipulation scam, reports Times of India.
Now suspended, Waze through an assistant inspector of the Mumbai crime branch had extorted Rs 30 lakh from the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) for not harassing its executives as per the investigations by ED.
BARC has shown in its books that it had awarded some construction-related work on its premises, for which it had transferred the money to the account of a dummy company.
Following this, the money was layered through four more shell companies. Thereafter, it was transferred to a hawala operator's bank account, from where the amount was returned to BARC in cash, which then handed it over to Waze's associate.
ED has already recorded the statement of a BARC employee and senior company executives who have confirmed the extortion by Waze. However, it should be noted that ED is still to question Waze and his associate.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
