In a big development being reported from the state of Kerala, the star politician from the Congress Party and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Shashi Tharoor seems to be trailing in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency against Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Kummanam Rajasekharan as per the initial trends of the vote counting.
This is a significant development for the BJP which has been striving to make inroads into the state whose politics has historically been dominated by Congress party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Also, if Tharoor loses his seat as an incumbent MP, it will be a major blow to the Congress party.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
