In a reminder of the VVIP culture prevalent across the country, Shiv Sena’s member of Parliament Ravindra Gaikwad hit an Air India staff with his slipper over the issue of seating on the airline.
“Yes, I hit him. He misbehaved with me,” Gaikwad said when asked about his action.

The MP was travelling from Pune to New Delhi when the scuffle broke out. He claimed that his ticket was for business class but Air India provided him with a seat in the economy class.
The AI staff who was assaulted said, “God save our country if this is the culture and behaviour of our MPs.”
Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju said this should never have happened.
Meanwhile Shiv Sena party spokesperson Manisha Kayande said the party does not advocate this behaviour and called for a probe to know “what instigated him”.
Update: Air India staff has stated that they have blacklisted Gaikwad.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
