Six family members of the eminent physician who passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday (April 15) in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong have also tested positive for the dreaded Covid-19 virus.
The wife, two sons, one daughter-in-law and two grandchildren of the physician who was the director of the city’s premier private hospital have tested positive.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted Wednesday (15 April) morning that of the 68 swab samples that have been tested so far, six have tested positive and six more are being re-tested.
The well-known physician is suspected to have contracted the virus from his son-in-law, a pilot with Air India who had flown to other countries. The entire family is now in quarantine and will not be able to attend the funeral of the physician who was the head of the family.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
