Soon, Indian Railways Line Connecting Hindu Pilgrimage Sites Of Rishikesh And Karnaprayag

Construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is about to win Rs 3,338 crore contract for a railway project that connects Rishikesh and Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand, reports Mint.

L&T Construction has emerged as the lowest bidder with a proposal of Rs 3337.60 crore. Gulermark follows L&T with a bid of Rs 3483.34 crore whereas Afcons Infrastructure and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure (MEIL) with proposals of Rs 3,790.80 crore and Rs 4,019.94 crore are the other bidders for the project.

The project will provide rail link connectivity between Rishikesh and Karnaprayag and boost the tourism sector by easing the access to pilgrimage centres of Uttarakhand.

This 125 km long railway line with complex geological challenges is being executed by state-owned Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.

And more than 84% of this railway project consists of tunnels and bridges. The project is slated to be completed within five years and the overall components of work include the construction of tunnels, construction shaft and other ancillary works.

A 15.1 km tunnel including a 240 meter embankment for Devprayag station and a 300 meter embankment at Janasu along with a minor bridge are also involved in the initiative.
