The online food ordering and delivery service Swiggy on Monday (4 February) has announced the Acqui-hiring of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) start-up Kint.io for an undisclosed amount, the Economic Times has reported.

Kint uses deep learning and computer vision to recognise objects in videos. The start-up that was founded in 2014 in Bengaluru would assist the food ordering and delivering service to boost its computer-vision technology and customer experience.

The founders of Kint.io, Pavithra Solai Jawahar and Jagannathan Veeraraghavan, will also join the Swiggy team, the company said in a statement.

Swiggy’s head of Engineering and Data Sciences, Dale Vaz said, “This Acqui-hire is part of our strategy to scale our tech prowess by bringing in entrepreneurial teams that can solve unique customer problems while leveraging the network and resources at Swiggy.”

Kint.io is Swiggy’s first technology-led Acqui-hire in its long-term strategy to build AI-first platforms. The founders of Kint.io, Jawahar and Veeraraghavan, said, “AI research has leap-frogged this past year, but lack of data, cultural biases and inability to adapt to our diversity has somehow always pulled us back when it comes to applying AI to India-based problems. This is where Swiggy left us stumped.”
